02 ABOUT THIS PLANE
-------------------
Designed to succeed the Lockheed Neptune maritime patrol aircraft, the
prototype Orion was first flown in 1959 with 157 P-3A models delivered to
the USN by 1965.

03 FLYING THIS AIRCRAFT
-----------------------

Unless you plan to stay airborne all day, reduce the fuel load to about
30%.

While these figures are a generalisation, they should be adequate
for Fltsim needs.

Takeoff: Rotate gently at 115 kts raising the nose to about 8 degrees.
Raise gear when climb rate is established and before 195 kts.
Raise flaps progessively until fully retracted by climb speed
	 of 220 kts.

Manuovre Flap (flap 1,F6 key) may be used if the aircraft is
remaining in the terminal area when flying circuits at relatively
low speeds, or maintaining low speed manoeuvring flight to
identify vessels (yachts?) or to prosecute a sonar-buoy contact.

Cruise: For max. range, climb to 32,000'
For short ranges: distance x 100 = altitude
	 To determine cruise speed:
	 KIAS = 205 + 0.5{(gross weight/1000)-(pressure altitude/1000)}
eg, 107,000 lbs, alt 25,000': Cruise speed = 246 KIAS.

Approach:140-150 KIAS, lower gear at any speed.
Select flap 1 below 275 KIAS
Select flap 2 below 195 KIAS
Select flap 3 below 170 KIAS

Land: 130 KIAS.

Land above 110,000 lbs in an emergency only!
